Nèe MacGregor. Kay of Newton Reigny, Penrith. Aged 75 years. Passed away, gently and with grace at home, on Tuesday, after a long illness, in the presence of her husband of 53 years, John, and some members of the medical teams that had supported her so kindly and well throughout. Particular thanks to the staff of NCIC, Penrith’s District Nurses, Palliative Care Team, Hospice at Home and Birbeck Medical Practice. Kay served Cumbria for nearly 25 years with distinction in various roles including 10 years as the first woman nationally to be a Director of Social Services where at the time she advanced and secured the protection of children and older people. Her cremation will be private. A Memorial Meeting will be held in Spring at The Friends’ Meeting House, Meeting House Lane, Penrith. A notice of its date and time will be published in due course. Thanks should also be given to friends, family, God Children and neighbours who supported Kay and John through her illness. Any enquiries to
