Recent Obituaries

Canon Keith Ernest, passed away peacefully at Furness General Hospital on Tuesday, 10^th December, after a short illness, aged 91 years. Beloved widower of Audrey Doreen, dearly beloved father of David, Christopher, Andrew and Elisabeth, much-loved grandfather of Sam, Josh, Ayesha, Ben, Hal, Max and Flo and great-grandfather of Millie. Former Rector of Grasmere and Honorary Canon of Carlisle Cathedral, and latterly resident at Calgarth Park, Troutbeck Bridge, he will be fondly remembered for the love and joy he brought to his ministry in his many parishes around the country. Funeral Thanksgiving Service to be held at St Oswald’s Church, Grasmere, on Monday 6^th January, at 11.00 am, followed by interment at Grasmere Cemetery. Peacefully, at Cartmell Grange Nursing Home, Grange-over-Sands on Saturday, 14^th December Maureen of Penrith, beloved wife of the late George, much loved mam of David and Julie, mother-in-law of June and Les and an inspirational nana of Reece, Coran, Paige, Nicola, Mark, David, Ian and Keith and great-nana of Mckenzie, Orla, Margot, Dorothy, Kayla and Bobby. Aged 85 years. Service at Christ Church, Penrith on Friday, 3^rd January at 11.00 am followed by interment at Penrith Cemetery. Peacefully, on Wednesday, 11^th December, Jean of Rydal Crescent, Penrith, beloved wife of the late Arthur, much loved mum of Gillian, Jayne and Helen and a sadly missed mother-in-law and grandma. Aged 89 years. Service of Thanksgiving at St. Andrews Church, Penrith on Monday, 30^th December at 10.30am, followed by private committal at Eden Valley Crematorium. Please feel free to wear bright colours. Peacefully, at home, on Monday 9^th December, Anita, of Brough, beloved wife of Mike, much loved mam of Adrian and Nicole, sister of Marlene, Sharon and the late Malcolm, sister-in-law of Helen, brother-in-law of Gordon and Johnny, and adored Grandma of Archie, Toby and Charlotte. Aged 64 Years. Service and Cremation at Eden Valley Crematorium on Friday, 20^th December at 12:30pm. Unexpectedly, at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, on Friday, 6^th December, Cliff of Edenhall, Penrith, a much loved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother and brother-in-law. Aged 82 years. Service and cremation at Eden Valley Crematorium on Thursday, 19^th December at 2.00 pm. Family flowers only, but if desired, donations in memory of Cliff which will be divided between British Heart Foundation and St. Cuthbert's Church, Edenhall may be left at the Service or sent to Richardsons Funeral Directors, Victoria Road, Penrith, CA11 8HR.

Peacefully, at home, on Thursday 5^th December, Peter, of Penrith, dearly loved husband of Joan, much loved dad of Paul and Clare, sadly missed by his seven grandchildren, fondly remembered by his sister-in-law Norma and family in France. Aged 86 Years. Service and Cremation at Eden Valley Crematorium, on Tuesday 17^th December at 12:30pm. It was Peter’s wish that anyone coming to the service wears bright colours.
